Foreword
In 2010 Nani Craze and a few Art enthusiasts in Nairobi established a voluntary team to show the works of the growing number of Kenyan artists in a diary form. The works of over 70 artists were shown in the 2011 Kenya Arts Diary KAD. This first diary was a success and sold out immediately. The exercise was repeated in 2012 and again sold out.

The 2018 KAD is therefore the 8th in the series. The Diaries have highlighted the works of over 500 artists, sculptors, crafts people and photographers. Both established and upcoming Artists have been featured.

The team of volunteers and helpers, led by Nani Craze have dedicated their time to explore the artistic community to secure their participation. The entries were reviewed and selected for publication. Adverts were sourced to finance the diaries and part was used to fund the residency for one or two up-coming artists to hone their skills at Kitengela Glass Art Studios.

We wish to thank Margaretta wa Gacheru and her helping hand Lyne Were for the untiring search for artists. Dr. Eric Krystall as always has put in his wisdom at 89, he is still Nani’s help mate for the diary since 2011. Diana Maigwa (Stormsky Graphics Ltd) fothe main work of this issue and other helpers, Carol Lees (One Off Gallery), Lydia Galavu (National Museums of Kenya) Kul Bhakoo, (Kul Graphics Ltd) Over the years many others like first Starter Peta Meyer, GoDown, Kuona Trust, who have contributed their skills – it could not have happened without them!

As the digital, electronic media takes over, sales of a paper diary seems to have slowed down, in spite of beautiful Art pictures. So Nani at 74 has decided to relinquish leadership and hand over to the most competent team member Diana. Nani thanks all team members past and present for their help in this Venture! We thank Heinrich Boll Foundation for their continued support in launching our yearly Kenya

Arts Diary.
