Welcome to the Online launch of the Kenya Arts Diary.

The past years have been a smack in all of the world’s face. “Kenya Art Diary” (KAD) and the evolution of KAD to the new book “Artists of Eastern Africa” have not escaped the hurdles of the pandemic. However, we have taken the chance to work on many efforts we could during the pandemic and one being the launch of this Online Edition of each KAD book over the past ten years. We know this will help to expand the original KAD’s mission of exposing and building the Kenyan Art Scene and serve as an archive to preserve the Art Scene’s history.

There is no question the Kenyan Art Scene has seen huge growth, new domestic audiences & collectors as well as a much wider global exposure since the first KAD book back in 2010. There is more to do – cool thing is there are many people and organizations doing actions getting the exposure out there. We will do our part with the launch of the new “Artists of Eastern Africa” you can learn more clicking on the link.

Please enjoy and share this website to anyone that you think has interests. If you see any errors or have comments please drop us a reply.

Thanks!

House of Friends launches HOF Gallery Kibera in the Kibera Arts District

HOF Gallery Kibera

Something planned for over a decade, delayed a couple years per Covid has finally breached through to reality. HOF Gallery Kibera, a professional Art Gallery within the Kibera Slums in Nairobi, Kenya. The Gallery will serve as the anchor for the newly established Kibera Arts District. Where art studios and creatives making functional art will be in a loose collective district sharing and working together. This of course is the sister gallery to the HOF Gallery Cincinnati. Both galleries grew out of House of Friends Kenya an effort that has been working in Kenya since 2003. Might seem like a small thing but here are a few pics sharing the first day of breaking ground on a real gallery space in Kibera. We hope to have the building completed before April. We welcome help to push the building along with support of funds. Happy to answer any questions you might have. To Donate please visit our House of Friends donate page.

House of Friends created this Kenya Arts Diary Archives website you are on now. We have plans of reworking the book to be a strong tool for the Arts Community of East Africa. Covid for sure has put a dent in our timeline and plans.
